I Do Not See My Notes After Reinstalling Outline for Mac

If your notebooks did not automatically load after reinstalling, this may be due to:

  • A version mismatch between the App Store version and the direct download version of Outline.

Don’t worry—your notebooks are usually stored outside of the app and can be found on your local drive or in cloud storage. Follow the steps below to locate and restore them.

🔹 Step 1: Search for Local Notebooks on Your Mac

Outline stores notes in notebooks, which are folders on your Mac, and each section is a .one file (or .outdoc in older versions).

How to Find Your Notebooks in Finder:

  1. Open Finder on your Mac.
  2. Use the search bar (top-right corner) and type:
  • Your notebook name (if known).
  • section name (if you remember any).
  • The .one extension (to find section files).

🔹 Step 2: Check Cloud Storage (If Applicable)

If your notebooks were stored in OneDrive, SharePoint, or another cloud service, follow these steps:

  1. Open Outline and go to File > Open From.
  2. Choose the correct cloud provider (e.g., O365/SharePoint).
  3. Select your notebook and open it.

If you’ve found your notebooks, open them from your local drive or reconnect them from the cloud. If you still can’t locate your data, contact us at support@outline.app for further assistance. 😊
